HR Notifications
HR Notifications
Using an HRIS, you will receive notifications when new employees are added or removed. You can directly schedule onboardings and offboardings, keeping your colleagues up-to-date.
Onboarding alerts come from your HRIS. AccessOwl posts to the HR channel when a new employee appears in the HRIS with a future start date. An onboarding you start by hand in Slack or on the web does not post to the HR channel. Offboardings post either way, manual or HRIS.

FAQ
Can onboarding and offboarding notifications go to different Slack channels?
Can onboarding and offboarding notifications go to different Slack channels?
No. There is a single HR notification channel. Offboarding alerts always land in it, and onboarding alerts land in it when the onboarding comes from your HRIS. The only split available is HR vs Org Admin, which can point at two different channels: HR carries the onboarding and offboarding alerts, Org Admin carries events like a newly discovered app.
Why did an onboarding not show up in the HR channel?
Why did an onboarding not show up in the HR channel?
Onboarding alerts in the HR channel come from your HRIS. AccessOwl posts when a new employee appears in the HRIS with a future start date. An onboarding you start by hand in Slack or on the web does not post to the HR channel. Offboardings post either way, manual or HRIS.If you onboard manually to control which Access Templates apply and still want the channel record, you can edit the HRIS-triggered onboarding before it runs instead of starting one by hand.
Can we stop the Slack messages new hires get from AccessOwl?
Can we stop the Slack messages new hires get from AccessOwl?
Not today. The onboarding messages sent to a new hire are not configurable and cannot be switched off. If AccessOwl is not your access-request surface, set every application to not requestable, so the messages cannot lead anywhere.
What is the difference between channel notifications and task reminders?
What is the difference between channel notifications and task reminders?
Channel notifications (HR and Org Admin) are sent to a configured Slack channel for events like new employee detection or new application discovery. Task reminders are sent as direct messages to individual approvers and granters about their personal open tasks.
Do approvers and granters get reminders about pending tasks?
Do approvers and granters get reminders about pending tasks?
Yes. AccessOwl sends periodic Slack reminder messages to approvers and granters who have outstanding tasks. The reminder is a consolidated summary of all open tasks (approvals, provisioning, and revocations), not a separate notification per request. You can configure reminder frequency in Settings.
Can I customize how often reminders are sent?
Can I customize how often reminders are sent?
Yes. Org Admins can adjust the reminder frequency in Settings. The same frequency applies to all task types (approvals, provisioning, and revocations).
Can a requester send a reminder to their approver on a specific request?
Can a requester send a reminder to their approver on a specific request?
Currently, no. Requesters cannot trigger a reminder on an individual request. Reminders are sent automatically to the person who needs to act, based on the configured schedule. Requesters are notified when an approver makes a decision (approve or deny).
What happens if an approver doesn't respond to a request?
What happens if an approver doesn't respond to a request?
There is no automated escalation. The periodic task reminders will continue to include the pending approval. If a request is blocked, an Org Admin can override the approval on behalf of the unavailable approver from the admin interface.
Only Org Admins have the “approve on behalf of” permission. Application Admins and Business Owners cannot override approvals.
Can approval requests go to a channel instead of direct messages?
Can approval requests go to a channel instead of direct messages?
No. Approval requests are delivered to each approver as a Slack direct message, and there is no setting to send them to a channel or group chat. Only the HR and Org Admin notifications (onboarding, offboarding, newly discovered apps) can target a shared channel, configured under Settings. Approvers see which steps are already done by opening the request in the App Hub under My Requests.
